About Youth Baseball Bats
More and more young players across the country are getting professional instruction at an early age. There are baseball schools and academies springing up all over the country with former professional players teaching young players how to play every facet of the game as it is taught at the highest levels. The professional hitting instructors all teach young players the value of hitting with wood. Wood bats are quite different from aluminum bats and directly affect the type of swing a player develops from an early age. The balance of aluminum bats has been artificially manipulated so the weight in closer to the hands and thus easier to swing for the average child. The sweet spot is larger and the player can see success with a sloppy inefficient swing because of the greater margin for error the aluminum provides. The aluminum bat encourages a long casting type of swing which works well when the pitching is slow. As soon as the player moves to higher levels with better pitching, many find their aluminum bat swings fails them.

Wood bats are weighted where the wood is thickest- the barrel. This is the exact opposite of an aluminum bat. For a player to swing a wood bat he must develop a short, efficient stroke bringing his hands inside and directly to the ball. Give a full size wood bat to a five year old and watch how he swings it. He usually brings the bat head directly to the ball rather than casting the bat out (where it’s weight will push the bat down) and immediately demonstrates the efficient stroke players strive to achieve. The weight of the bat becomes less of a factor in a player’s swing because of the efficiency of the compact swing. The “hitting” muscles of the hitters hands, wrists and forearms develop faster as he molds his body to hit a baseball effectively. Once a player has developed this short, direct efficient swing, he finds he can slow the game down by waiting longer to identify the pitch. The longer he waits, the less chance of swinging at the pitcher’s pitch and the better chance of hitting his pitch.

X-BATS recognizes that everyone starts their love of baseball at an early age. We support the development of baseball players rather than trying to sell them a $250, bat which costs $5 to make and gives them a quick fix for success at the expense of their long term development. Wood youth bats are one of our most popular products. We have youth players, both boys and girls, swinging wood from 5 year olds swinging 24 and 25 inch bats to pre-high school players swinging 31 and 31.5 inch bats to prepare them for the –3 bats they will have to use in high school. The wood youth bat is the most valuable developmental tool you can provide to a young player. The success he sees will carry through throughout his baseball career. There are serious adult league players playing fast pitch baseball well into their 70s. These are the players who swung wood all their lives and learned to swing the right way from an early age. X-BATS is trying to undo the damage caused to youth players from aluminum bats. Start your young player swinging a wood youth bat at an early age. He will develop into a better player because of it.

Customize your baseball bat by length, bat weight, barrel color, handle color, and flag type.  You can even add an inscription and signature.  Rush production is available.
